How to get more Google reviews for your salon: 9 ideas that work in India
By the StartCloudOps team3 min read
People choose a salon the way they choose a restaurant: they search on Google Maps, look at the photos, and read the latest reviews. A salon with fresh reviews mentioning stylists by name gets the booking. Here are nine ideas that help any salon, spa or parlour get more genuine reviews, all within Google’s rules.
1. Ask at the mirror, not at the cash counter
The best moment is when the client sees the result and smiles. A simple “If you love it, a Google review would really help us” from the stylist works better than any printed notice.
2. Send one WhatsApp message the same day
Clients forget by tomorrow. Send the direct review link within a few hours of the appointment.
English
Hi {name}! Thank you for visiting {salon} today. Hope you’re loving your new look. If you have a minute, an honest Google review helps us a lot: {link}
Hinglish
Hi {name}! Aaj {salon} aane ke liye thank you. Umeed hai aapko apna naya look pasand aa raha hai. Ek minute ho to Google par honest review de dijiye, humein bahut help hogi: {link}
3. Put a review QR at the mirror and the counter
A small QR card at each station lets clients review while they wait for colour to set or their nails to dry. See our guide to making a Google review QR code.
4. Make it easy to mention the stylist
Reviews that name a stylist (“Priya did an amazing balayage”) are the ones new clients trust most, and they motivate your team. Stylists can say: “If you mention my name, it really helps me.”
5. Ask every client the same way
Don’t ask only your regulars or only the clients who looked happy. Google’s policy does not allow selectively asking happy customers (“review gating”). It also does not allow rewards for reviews, so no “10% off for a 5-star review”, and staff shouldn’t review their own salon.
6. Reply to every review within a day or two
A reply shows the next client that someone reads them. Keep it personal and short: mention the service or the stylist, and invite them back. For complaints, see how to reply to negative Google reviews.
7. Turn a complaint into a second visit
Most salon complaints are about a result the client didn’t expect, or waiting time. A calm public reply plus a call offering a free correction often turns a 2-star into a returning client. Some even update their review afterwards; you can’t ask for that as a condition, but it happens.
8. Keep the profile alive with photos and posts
Before-and-after photos (with the client’s permission), new services and festival offers posted on your Business Profile give people a reason to stay on your listing instead of the next one.
9. Watch the numbers once a month
Track new reviews, average rating, and the calls and direction requests from your Business Profile. If calls go up as reviews grow, it’s working.
Doing it without spending your evenings on it
StartCloudOps Review gives you a review QR flyer and WhatsApp link, writes a reply to every review (auto thank-yous for 4–5 stars if you want), and emails you within hours when a 1–3 star review comes in. Clients who use the review page can pick what they liked and get an editable draft in English, Hinglish or Hindi, then post it in their own words.
Try it free for 14 days on your salon’s own Google profile.
Frequently asked questions
Can I give a discount for a Google review?
No. Google does not allow offering money, discounts, free services or gifts in exchange for reviews. You can still ask every client for an honest review.
How many Google reviews does a salon need?
There is no fixed number. What matters is a steady flow of recent reviews and replies. A few new reviews every week keeps your profile ahead of salons whose last review was months ago.
